Alison Giorgianni Announced as President Emeritus; Destiny Sheard Appointed Acting President

After serving with remarkable dedication since 2009 as president of the Standardbred Pleasure Horse Organization of New Jersey (SPHO-NJ), Alison Giorgianni has stepped into the esteemed position of president emeritus. Her leadership has been pivotal in steering the organization through numerous successes and challenges. Since the vice-president position is currently vacant, as Alison transitions into this new role, the board of directors has appointed Destiny Sheard as the acting president of the board for the remainder of this presidential term, which runs through October 31, 2025, and will be up for election in the next cycle of board positions in 2025 for the 2026 competition year.

As president emeritus, Alison will serve as a valuable resource and advisor, drawing on her extensive experience and deep understanding of the organization's history and strategic vision. She will offer counsel on key decisions, mentor current leaders, and provide continuity and stability during transitions. Although not actively involved in day-to-day operations, her insights and guidance will help shape long-term strategies and ensure the board remains aligned with the organization’s core mission and values.

During Alison’s tenure as president since 2009, the SPHO-NJ has seen immense growth in all facets, including its membership, sponsor contributions, the year-end awards program, and the National Standardbred Horse Show, all culminating to support the organization’s mission to educate the equine community on the versatility and suitability of Standardbreds for careers after racing.

As a token of appreciation for their years of dedication, Alison and Jim Giorgianni have been granted the first lifetime memberships to the SPHO-NJ, recognizing their exceptional contributions and unwavering commitment to the organization for decades.

Destiny is known for her innovative vision, enthusiastic workstyle, and has demonstrated clear commitment to the organization's mission. Having served on the SPHO-NJ board of directors since 2018, she is poised to build on Alison’s legacy and guide the organization into the upcoming competition year.
