2023 National Standardbred Horse Show

We hope everyone has had enough time to dry out after the wettest National Standardbred Horse Show we’ve had to date. With a record number of horses, competitors, and entries, the 29th year of this horse show was not without challenges, but still the best year yet, thanks to the wonderful people and horses we could share the weekend with.

We appreciate everyone’s flexibility as we had to adjust from five arena availabilities to just one during Tropical Storm Ophelia on Saturday and Sunday. To all of the people who jumped in to help with everything from moving jumps to picking up poop, our sincerest “thank you”!

Congratulations to everyone who competed, showcasing this breed to a better standard every year. The caliber of horses this year was impressive, to say the least. Even in the most questionable weather, we saw well-educated horses demonstrating their training, so kudos to the riders, owners, and trainers, and especially the horses.

Prize money from the National Standardbred Horse Show is being finalized and payouts will be mailed ASAP.

Feedback

We would love to hear your feedback – the good, the bad, and the ugly, to know how we can improve on this horse show for its 30th anniversary in 2024. Please submit (anonymously if you wish) your ideas to us on this page: sphonj.org/national-standardbred-horse-show.

Reminders

As a reminder, for your results from the National Standardbred Horse Show to count for year-end awards, each member was required to volunteer two hours at the National Standardbred Horse

Show, or have a family member or friend volunteer in their place. You may choose to buy out your hours at $50 per hour. If you choose the buyout option, buyout fees are due by October 31.

For members who have competed in October, please remember to submit your points within 30 days of each horse show. The last day for points submission will be November 30.

SPHO-NJ Member Meeting

We will be holding an all-member SPHO-NJ meeting at 7:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, November 2. We encourage everyone to join via Zoom so we can unpack the 2023 competition year and brainstorm ideas to make 2024 even better.
